Thierry Barbé is co-principal bass in the Paris Opera Orchestra, teacher in the National Paris Superior Conservatory of music, (CNSMP).
He was born in METZ (Lorraine-France), a town situated in the center of Europe. After having followed a scientific cursus at college, studying in the same time piano and double-bass, he came to Paris with the aim of studying music in its essence, which he did for 5 years at National Superior Conservatory of music (CNSMP). He was succesful in obtaining first prize in musical analysis, a first accessit in harmony-conterpoint, diplôm of music history and esthetic, and firt prize double-bass.
He studyed electro-accoustic music also, orchestral direction, being employed in the same time in the Paris Opera Orchestra in which he is actually soloist.
His passion is to perform in concert with piano (Recitals in BRAZIL, Master class in Georgia(USA), Capbreton, FRANCE)and in teaching the double-bass since 1982(National Regional Conservatoire of St Maur). He likes every music, from Bach to Xenakis, world and jazz , and plays his own works ( CD " Nomade "1998).
He experimented numerous technical approaches of the double-bass, ( italian , french , from Rollez to Rabbath), and he thinks that it is time to make synthesis between generations, to build a sane and logical instrumental technique, whose only aim is to play sensible music.
Indeed, musician, nowadays, becomes a synthesis between the pure traditionnel one, who is charming, natural, heir of secular know-how and good manners, sincere artist adoring and respecting his masters, always seeking empirical improvements, and the young one, descended from the same model of general culture: high school, medias, powerful world economic system wich organise and rationalize everything with logic and efficiency.
